Our History
The EBAC Auxiliary (Auxiliary) is an organization made up of approximately 50 committed volunteers that was created to support the East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC). EBAC’s mission is to improve the well being of children, youth and families by reducing the impact of trauma and social inequities.
The predecessor of the EBAC Auxiliary was the CAP Auxiliary which was formed in the 1990’s by a group of women who wanted to continue Child Assault Prevention (CAP) workshops in their children’s Piedmont schools after state funding was eliminated. CAP became part of EBAC in 2001. Originally, the CAP Auxiliary raised money specifically for the CAP program. In 2009, however, the group broadened its mission to support more than the CAP program and became the EBAC Auxiliary. Since then, this group of volunteers has continued to host the annual Gala, now in its 21st year, expanding the use of proceeds to benefit the entire EBAC agency. The EBAC Auxiliary supplements its work on the Gala to support EBAC through volunteerism, network building, and various other advocacy endeavors.
At its inaugural fundraising event, a Masquerade Ball, the CAP Auxiliary raised over $7,200. As the focus and membership expanded, the commitment to help more children also increased, whereby, in 2010, the Gala raised over $60,360. Over the past 10 years the financial impact has continued a steady growth of 10 to 30 percent in net funds raised. In 2019, the Gala raised just over $200,000 to support EBAC’s programs.
